Welcome to Nihongo Notes - a fun, motivational site aimed at helping others learn Japanese

About Chris

Originally from the UK, I arrived in Japan on November 15th 2008 and now call Japan my home.

Some would say I was crazy to move country and look for work during the peak of the financial crisis in 2009, and I'd agree. I was close to being forced to return to the UK due to lack of funds. Luckily (and with a lot of effort) I managed to find myself a job, and a job I love. I now work with Danny Choo at Mirai Inc, growing communities, such as www.figure.fm, and developing the Mirai Gaia platform.

About Nihongo Notes

Since February 2008 I have been attempting to learn Japanese by self-study. However, to say I was studying all that time would be a very obvious lie. I’ve made many mistakes, burnt out several times, spent 7 months out, and still find it difficult to balance learning with work/life, but in the end it's worth all the struggle. Now that I'm settled here in Japan I can begin to focus on learning Japanese again, and aim to pass all the levels of JLPT, starting with JLPT 4.

This site was originally my own blog for sharing my progress with learning Japanese, but I always wanted it to be more of a community, since learning alone is no fun. So thanks to Danny Choo, I have migrated the site to the Mirai Gaia platform and will be opening it up for everyone to use.
