Crabs in Ice

Came across this awesome display of seafood on my way to lunch this week.
Do you eat seafood? I came to Japan on a tour last year and about 4 of the 12 people didn't eat seafood. The tour guide had to keep everyone happy so there was a lot of awkward moments when people realized that most places don't serve vegetarian dishes here in Japan. I felt sorry for the tour guide having to sort all of that out.
I was more than happy as long as I had some form of meat and beer ^^

It's really hard to get ice that clear! You've got to freeze it layer by layer.

I was wondering how they got the leaf straight and assumed it was some kind of layering process. It wasn't just a case of throwing it all in a tub and sticking it in the freezer ^^

Nope, cause that would result in cloudy ice. Or ice that cracks with a
temperature differential (like when you put it in your drink). They do the
same thing to make ice for ice sculptures - it's frozen layer by layer
carefully. It's done with purified water in a motionless environment (so
bubbles don't form). Cool stuff. Argh...forgive the pun.

When I realized that effort was put into also creating the ice itself I appreciated it a lot more. I always thought ice sculptures were beautiful and was impressed by the work of the sculptures but I never considered the effort that went into creating the ice in the first place. Fascinating stuff!

Can't wait 4 the ice to melt so the crabs can be cook. Should be tasty.

I hate people who don't eat. Those people shouldn't travel. They're not real people if they don't real food.
