I didn't do as much actual study as I'd liked today, so I will have to do a bit more tomorrow. The most memorable new word today was 了解 (りょうかい) which means "comprehension; consent; understanding; roger (on radio)". A client asked for some changes to their website and, as Danny suggested, I confirmed by saying 了解です. That will be a word I can use regularly.

With it being so cold lately I appreciate all the vending machines that contain あたたかい "warm" drinks! On this vending machine the word is spelled あたたか〜い, the 〜 extends the か, so it's like saying "waaaarm". I guess it makes it sound more appealing.

Words of the day

  • 寒い (さむい) "cold"
  • 暖かい (あたたかい) "warm"
  • 了解 (りょうかい) "comprehension; consent; understanding; roger (on radio)"
  • 本 (ほん) "book"
  • 傘 (かさ) "umbrella"

There will be alot of days where you can't study as much as you wanted if you are not a student.
    I know this too.
But thanks to you I finally eliminated a mistake in my vocabulary. I always tought it is ようかい and not りょうかい. I never looked it up though T_T

=/ Oh noo! I could've sworn it was ようかい as well! But, upon looking it up, I see that I've been wrong. x___x Oh wow.

another similar word would be "わかりました".
in a more formal situation (eg: restaurant staff speaking to you), they might say "かしこまりました" which also had same meaning as 了解.

Hi CLF, thanks for the extra notes. I will listen out for かしこまりました next time I'm in a restaurant.

I like how 了解 means the exact same thing in Chinese as in Japanese.
