I was lucky enough to be in Tokyo during the Sanja Matsuri (三社祭, "Three Shrine Festival") at Asakusa. It was my first full day in Japan and what better way to start the trip than with a festival! I ended up walking down some of the side streets waiting for the parade to start and found some interesting shops and a very peaceful garden. Once I returned to the temple area it was packed with people waiting with cameras in hand.

Just a note to let anyone visiting this site looking for information on my Firefox Fancy Numbered Tabs extension know that I have updated it for Firefox 3 and it’s awaiting moderation by the Mozilla team. Unfortunately they seem to be taking quite a while.

My lunches used to consist of boring sandwiches, but they will be boring no longer! This is about my 4th attempt at bento and I freakin' love it! It's a lot healthier than the chicken mayo sandwiches I used to have! If you want to see a few more bentos that I've made check out my Flickr Food set. I plan to keep it updated with most of the bentos I make.

I have a confession. I've been slacking. I memorised the Kana at the end of last week and since then I've only done about 2 hours of reviewing Kana. I should be moving on to the Kanji. I'm still immersing myself in Japanese but not as much as I could. Don't even get me started on my writing practice... In an effort to keep myself on track I'm giving Plurk.com a try!

With a mix of excitement and nerves I’m off to Japan tomorrow and won’t be back until the 1st June! I’ll have loads of photos and I plan to write a few notes each day to post some sort of travel journal. So expect a lot more action on this site in June!

So I’m sitting planning how to get from place to place within Japan and I suddenly think “What the hell have I got myself into”, and I’m not even there yet! I only started learning Japanese a few months ago and suddenly I’m heading there for 2 weeks. I’m also meeting a penfriend which I’m [...]

I finally sorted out the Yen for my trip which should arrive this week. I really wasn’t sure how much to get. I ended up getting it all in cash rather than travellers cheques to save myself a little time whilst I’m there. I don’t expect to get mugged or anything, but just to be [...]
